Dr. Jeffrey Dunwell is a fourth-generation University of Michigan dentist and a former U.S. Navy Dental Officer. Since opening on Pontiac Trail, this practice has been built on one idea: that a dental visit should be the easiest appointment on your calendar.

Four years in the Navy taught him how to keep people calm.
Dr. Dunwell earned the U.S. Navy Health Professions Scholarship for dental school, then served four years of active duty as a Naval Dental Officer — treating sailors at sea, where there is no referring out and no second appointment next week.
He is a fourth-generation graduate of the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He lives here in South Lyon with his wife and two daughters, and he built this practice to be the kind of dental office he would send his own family to.

Why we do this
Bob needed his new teeth by Saturday.
He was 92 years old, a World War II veteran, and his grandson was getting married the next day.
He got his dentures in time. “As a dentist, there are few things more rewarding than providing a new smile for a 92-year-old World War II Veteran,” Dr. Dunwell wrote afterwards. “Great aesthetic outcome for a great patient.”
That is the whole job, really. Someone walks in unable to smile in a photograph, and walks out able to. Everything else — the scanners, the schedule, the six-month reminders — exists to make that moment possible.
